The Department of English is proud to announce that the late Professor Gerald Locklin will be posthumously receiving the °µÍøÊÓƵ Literacy Legacy Award at the Belmont Shore Book Fair. This award recognizes Professor Locklin’s lifelong dedication to promoting literacy, education, and community engagement. His passion for poetry, learning, and his commitment to empowering others through education continue to inspire students, colleagues, and the greater °µÍøÊÓƵ community.
Following the award presentation, they will also introduce a new annual tradition — The Gerald Locklin °µÍøÊÓƵ Writer Relay. During this event, each participating author will have three minutes to share an excerpt from their published work that captures the essence of °µÍøÊÓƵ. This collaborative reading celebrates Professor Locklin’s enduring influence and the many writers he inspired throughout his career.
Anyone who wishes to take part in this tribute are invited to submit their pieces to mevans30@ivc.edu or longbeachwritercontact@gmail.com.
