Carol Leung

Carol A. Leung, Ph.D., LCSW is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at California State University, °µÍøÊÓÆµ. Her research focuses on mental health disparities, suicide prevention, and culturally responsive clinical practice with individuals experiencing intergenerational trauma, depression, and anxiety. Dr. Leung investigates how proximal and distal suicidal risk factors—shaped by race, gender, and culture—intersect to influence suicidal behaviors across the life span. She has analyzed data from the CDC’s National Violent Death Reporting System. One of her recent projects involves a collaborative initiative with the UCLA Agile Visual Analytics Lab (AVAL) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of youth suicide prevention reporting and crisis response pilot programs. Prior to joining CSULB, she was a psychotherapist in New York City, serving immigrant and refugee populations. Dr. Leung earned her Ph.D. from UCLA and her MSW and BA in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin.
