Junior Spring Semester Abroad in Hamburg, Germany

The “Junior Spring Semester Abroad” program allows ������Ƶsocial work undergraduate students to gain an international experience by studying for a semester in Hamburg, Germany but without extending time to graduation. Classes are in English () and give an insight into the expertise of German and European social work, transferring as credit for the ������Ƶsocial work program. The program also includes the Spring semester compulsory 80-hour practicum experience with local organizations.

Since 2008, California State University, ������Ƶ has been partnered with Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in Germany. With its 1.8 million inhabitants, Hamburg is Germany's second-largest city after Berlin and an international port. Living and studying in Hamburg provides students with a wide range of insights into different cultures and lifestyles as well as social issues and their solutions in a modern urban community. Its undergraduate programs prepare students for a diverse range of social occupations and work in childhood education. They reflect the complexity of social work in a modern society.

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) program at the California State University, ������Ƶ School of Social Work is to promote the thriving and well-being of individuals, families, and communities through a person-in-environment framework. Our incorporation of critical race theory and other critical pedagogies requires a commitment to respecting human diversity and applying knowledge based on scientific inquiry to advance social, racial, economic, and environmental justice. These values, along with the anti-racist/oppressive values implied in our adoption of critical race theory and other critical pedagogies are foundational to our explicit and implicit curriculum. As our BASW students, if and when they choose to pursue an advanced social work degree, will be prepared to live the values that frame professional social work practice.
