Welcome Letter

Dear Visitor and Potential DrPH Student,

On behalf of the faculty and the staff of the Department of Health Science, I want to welcome you to our Department and to our Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree program. Thank you for your interest in our program. Our mission is to produce outstanding public health professionals to meet the needs of underserved societies locally and globally. Our program values collaboration, equity, excellence  and leadership are threaded and reinforced through course work, internship experiences, published materials and public statements.

The DrPH program graduates assume such positions as public health leaders, senior level administrators, applied researchers, policy makers, and university -level educators at the local, state, national and international levels. The educational environment we provide is very individualized where our students reach their educational goals within their predetermined time frame, enjoy the educational process and thrive! Our program is also very friendly for working adults.

°µÍøÊÓÆµCollege of Health and Human Services

The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at California State University, °µÍøÊÓÆµ (CSULB) is one of the university's largest academic colleges, with over 8,000 students enrolled in more than 70 programs. CHHS's mission is to help people live healthier, safer, and happier lives by preparing students for careers in health, wellness, business, industry, and government. The college offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of disciplines, including nursing, health science, kinesiology, physical therapy, and recreation and leisure studies. CHHS's programs integrate coursework with community-engaged learning and research, and faculty members are established scholars and practitioners in their fields. The college also partners with community organizations to improve health disparities, reduce homelessness, and meet the needs of older adults.

California State University, °µÍøÊÓÆµ (CSULB) is a public research university in the California State University (CSU) system. It's the second largest campus in the CSU system, with 322 acres and a student body of over 38,000. °µÍøÊÓÆµis known for its academic excellence, diversity, and community engagement. Its mission is to enrich the lives of its students and the surrounding community through educational experiences that emphasize teaching, research, and creative activity. °µÍøÊÓÆµalso seeks to prepare students to function in a diverse society by developing an understanding of diverse heritage and global awareness. 

CSULB's academic calendar is based on semesters, with a summer term and winter session available for a fee. °µÍøÊÓÆµoffers a variety of degree programs, including doctoral degrees in education, physical therapy, audiology, nursing practice, and occupational therapy.  

The Department of HSC is one of the 11 departments/Schools within the CHHS. The Department offers graduate and undergraduate degrees. At the Masters degree level, it offers the Master of Public Health (MPH) and MPH in Community Health Education. At the undergraduate level, it offers the BS degree in Health Science, and Community Health Education Option, as well as BS in Health Science with the School Health Education option.

The Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) program started in the Fall of 2025. The DrPH program is a 3-year program. Students have the option of selecting one of the following three concentration areas:  (1)  Public Health Informatics and Technology, (2)  Global Health and (3) Community Health and Policy.
