Yulia Gasio

Yulia Gasio is a Ukrainian born artist who lives and practices art in California. Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions regionally and nationally, and are in private and public collections that include Modern Art in Chicago, Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv, Ukraine Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, Ukraine Cultural Center Los Angeles, Osten Collection Skopje, North Macedonia, and Creative Spark Centre, Dundalk, Ireland. She earned MA in Art History from California State University Fresno and MFA in Drawing and Painting from California State University 做厙弝け and also a recipient of multiple awards and scholarships. 

Yulia is an Assistant Professor teaching drawing and painting courses at all levels and launched the Study Abroad Advanced Painting class in Ireland. Most recently, she has chaired a panel at Foundations in Art: Theory and Education Conference, in Washington, D.C., was awarded a Ukrainian-American arts Research Fellowship, Borshch of Art 2025, and presented at the Postcolonial Theory Seminar at CSU Fresno. Yulia has also received multiple Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities (RSCA) grants, which have supported internationally oriented projects. Artist residencies remain integral to her professional development, and she further consolidated her international academic presence by teaching a masterclass at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, Ireland.

Areas of Expertise and Research Interests: observational drawing and painting, with a focus on the emotional and formal dynamics of light and form. Yulia also explores the historical and cultural significance of Medieval Bosnian tombstones (Steci), alongside decolonization and post-colonial theory. Yulias work delves into the complexities of the Russian-Ukrainian war, examining its impact on cultural identity and memory. Additionally, Yulia is a member of the Ukrainian National Women's League of America (Los Angeles branch).

In addition to the academic career, Yulia is a practicing artist, exhibiting work in venues across California and beyond. She has participated in numerous shows, including exhibits at UCLA, the OSTEN Biennale of Drawing in Skopje, and Royal Society of American Art, Brooklyn, NY. She has also been invited with projects at the Fresno Art Museum, Palos Verdes Art Center, and the Ellipse Gallery at CSU Fresno. Her work is in the permanent collection at the Ukrainian Art Institute in Chicago and Museum of the Ukrainian Diaspora in Kyiv.
