Shark Lab director and professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Cal State °µÍøÊÓƵ, Chris Lowe, held a workshop for local lifeguards to learn more about white sharks as part of their beach safety training. According to , Lowe said, "The goal for them [lifeguards] is to get an update on what we're learning about white sharks right now. So, where they are moving, how are they acting, how they act around people and what does that mean in terms of their ability to manage a beach."
