Maulana Karenga, chair of the Department of Africana Studies at Cal State °µÍøÊÓƵ, was featured in for creating the holiday Kwanzaa.  According to the article, "The celebration draws from various African harvest festivals and blends elements of continental African culture, African American history and traditional African values."
