2020 Port of °µÍøÊÓÆµ Tour
The 2020 Port of °µÍøÊÓÆµ Tour took place on Saturday, March 7 in the City of °µÍøÊÓÆµ's harbor. A total of 9 students and 2 faculty members (METRIC Co-PIs/mentors) took a guided boat tour of the port.
The 90-minute tour was hosted by the Port of °µÍøÊÓÆµ and is intended to educate citizens about the Port. We started the tour on the docks of °µÍøÊÓÆµ (close to the Aquarium of the Pacific) and very quickly began to see the infrastructure of the Port. The guide was informative and discussed the operations of the Port. On this trip, we saw a host of engineering marvels such as towering cranes, large vessels, the Gerald Desmond Bridge Replacement project, and we learned about the many environmental initiatives the Port has implemented to reduce pollution.
The event ended with a boxed lunch and a Q&A with the guide.
METRIC's Port of °µÍøÊÓÆµ Tour serves many important purposes:
- Provides education on the Port of °µÍøÊÓÆµ
- Illustrates the types of STEM-related jobs, careers, and opportunities at the Port of °µÍøÊÓÆµ
- Allows METRIC students to further connect with each other and develop rapport
- Provides METRIC students an opportunity to connect with mentors and members of the METRIC leadership team
