Marquez embodies servant leadership in its truest form, bringing more than two decades of dedication to education, civic life and community wellness. His journey in K-12 education, from teacher assistant to teacher to principal, is grounded in a rich academic foundation that includes a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Cal State °µÍøÊÓƵ, a master’s degree and administrative credential from Cal State Dominguez Hills and a doctorate in School Leadership from USC, where his research explored the role of critical self-reflection and the transformative power of love in schools. Elected to the Maywood City Council in 2018, Marquez has become a widely respected voice for youth advocacy, mental health, the arts and civic engagement — leadership that earned him an invitation to the White House as a guest of First Lady Jill Biden and recognition as the 2023 LA County Democrat of the Year. Whether shaping young minds in the classroom or uplifting an entire community from the dais, Marquez leads with purpose, compassion and an unwavering belief in the potential of the people he serves.
